This photo story first started out about my friend Barry who's been skateboarding all his life.. In my edumacation, I discovered a culture that was unique and extremely supportive of one another.. We start at the beginning with SpoonyBee Barry Walsh showing us the Olympic stadium from way back when.. He also took the time to show me all his magazine that he was published in as a skateboarder.. because of this and many other conversations, I asked him if he could show me the ramp in Verdun where he used to skate on when he was a kid.. when we went.. it was overturned and he got saddened by the state of skateboarding today and was thankful that he and his *fiends* had the Pipe at the Big O to skate still.. Watching him do his tricks and hearing him speak their lingo was actually a lot of fun and allowed me to extremely enjoy myself. These guys and yes.. some girls go to this Historic place (a few years back they wanted to destroy the pipe.. but Barry and some friends of his wrote a book about the beauty and history of the Pipe and actually managed to make a difference and save it from destruction!). Some of these skaters have been riding the Pipe for over 20 years and they are still going strong and enjoying a beer after a very hard and adventurous day.. the hill you see in one of the pics is the hill you MUST take in order to get there... and over the yrs many people from around the world called the Pipe elusive.. because they simply couldn't find it, but for those of us who had the opportunity to climb that hill and seek it out, our world got a little brighter and more fun:) enjoy.. i know i did!~
